Hundreds of faithful on 11th Sunday April 2025 at St. John Chapel in Nabiapai Two, near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), participated in a spirited fundraising event aimed at constructing a permanent worship space for the growing Christian community.

Led by Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY), the event united Christians from various denominations, including Catholic faithful from across the border of DRC.
The fundraising event raised a total of 9,311,150 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) in cash, along with 2,350,000 SSP in pledges showing a strong indication of the community’s commitment to the project.

In his address, Bishop Hiiboro urged the congregation to continue working together in faith and purpose. “This is not just about building walls of stone; it is about building the house of God with hearts united in love and service”, he said.
Fr. Samuel Lipumbo, Parish Priest of Duru Catholic Parish in the DRC, praised the collaboration between the churches of South Sudan and the DRC. “Our unity transcends borders. We are one body in Christ, and this gathering proves that we can achieve great things when we walk together”, Fr. Lipumbo remarked.
Also in attendance were several senior government officials from Western Equatoria State, including the Acting State Governor Hon. Bakoyogo Morris Severino, State Minister of Housing, Land and Public Utilities Babe Renzi, and State Minister of Roads and Bridges Ann Tuna Richard. The officials commended the Church’s efforts in community development and pledged continued government support.

“The Church has always been a pillar in our communities, providing not just spiritual guidance, but also playing a key role in education, health, and social welfare”, Hon. Severino said. “Our government stands ready to partner with the Church in such noble efforts”.
