The faithful community at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Gangura Payam on Saturday 10th May 2025, launched a coffee plantation and established fish pond.

Dubbed the “Green Gold Coffee Plantation”, the initiative aims to promote sustainable agriculture and provide economic opportunities for the local Christian community. The launch was marked by prayer, blessings, and speeches of encouragement from the bishop and other church leaders.

Speaking during the event, Bishop Hiiboro Kussala expressed gratitude for the fertile land God has blessed the community with, urging the faithful to make good use of it. “The plantation is called “Green Gold Coffee” because of the potential it has to bring prosperity to our people. Let us use this land wisely for better income,” he said.

The bishop encouraged youth and parishioners to work closely with their Parish Priest to maintain both the coffee plantation and the fishing pond. He further announced that seedlings will be made available to anyone who wishes to begin planting at home.

Rev. Fr. Ezekiel Sungerukuari James, the Parish Priest of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, praised the bishop’s involvement, calling it a great source of inspiration. “We are very happy to see our bishop join us in these two activities and bless our efforts. His presence motivates us to keep working hard for the success of our parish,” Fr. Ezekiel said.

The launch was attended by a large gathering of Christians, youth groups, women’s associations, and representatives of the local government, reflecting the strong community support for the project.

The Green Gold Coffee Plantation and fishing pond are expected to enhance food security, create job opportunities, and strengthen the church’s role in rural development within Western Equatoria State.
