31 Baptisms, 36 Confirmations, and 39 First Communions Mark Bishop Hiiboro’s Visit to St. Paul Nakpazigi

By Fr. Bie Emmanuel, Executive Secretary of the Bishop, CDTY

St. Paul Nakpazigi Center, under St. Peter Parish Namaku, witnessed a day of great spiritual joy and renewal as Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio, paid a pastoral visit. During the celebration, the bishop blessed one couple, baptized 31 children, confirmed 36 candidates, and administered First Holy Communion to 39 candidates. The occasion gathered the faithful in large numbers, marking an important milestone in the growth of the community’s faith and witness to Christ.

In his pastoral message, Bishop Hiiboro called on the people to embrace love, unity, and respect for God’s creation. He encouraged them to work hard to overcome hunger and poverty in Nzara County, urging a spirit of self-reliance and dedication.

The bishop strongly denounced the destructive belief in witchcraft, which has weakened faith in the region, and appealed to the faithful to abandon such practices, instead placing their trust in God’s providence and the fruit of their own labor. He further encouraged local chiefs and authorities to collaborate with the people in eliminating harmful superstitions and to build a society grounded in faith and hard work.

As a sign of gratitude and solidarity, the faithful donated both food and non-food items to the bishop, testifying to their deep appreciation for his pastoral presence. Speaking on behalf of the community, the center chairperson, Mr. Kezito Kpakarakadi, highlighted the unity and progress of the faithful in their journey of faith, while also presenting some of the challenges they continue to face. These included the lack of a proper education system, the absence of quality health services in their area, and the need for a permanent church building to support the growing community.
