The Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CODEP), operating under the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY), on Thursday 19th successfully distributed essential relief aid to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Rii-Menze Catholic Parish, Yambio County. The aid distribution, carried out on June 19, 2025, was made possible through generous funding from Caritas Austria.

The initiative, titled “Emergency Appeals for Humanitarian Assistance to the Most Affected Population of IDPs in Rii-Menze,” is designed to address the urgent needs of vulnerable populations affected by the ongoing conflict.

In total of 101 households—comprising 328 individuals received life-saving food and non-food items. The distribution package included essential supplies such as plastic sheets, blankets, sleeping mats, beans, rice, sugar, salt, and cooking oil.

Speaking about the initiative, Gibson Kamilio Bakuyo, CODEP’s Humanitarian Emergency Coordinator, emphasized the importance of timely and targeted assistance to communities grappling with displacement and insecurity. “This effort is a response to the urgent needs of our people who have been severely affected by conflict. With support from Caritas Austria, we are ensuring that the most vulnerable are not left behind,” he said.

The distribution is part of CODEP’s ongoing commitment to providing humanitarian aid and restoring dignity to displaced families throughout Western Equatoria State.

The humanitarian crisis in South Sudan continues to displace thousands, with many relying on faith-based and international organizations for survival.
