Confirmation in the Catholic Church is the sacrament that strengthens and completes a Christian's initiation into the faith. It empowers them with the Holy Spirit to live a faithful, courageous life of discipleship in the Church and the world. It is a sacred rite in which a baptized person is strengthened and sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. In his Homily, Bishop Hiiboro encouraged the new faithful to embrace the spirit of Holy Spirit in their daily lives, and love for humanity. “This sacrament is not just a rite of passage,” said bishop, “It is a continuation of Bishop Gasi’s legacy a legacy rooted in deep faith, hope, and love for his people. Today, you take on the responsibility of living as true Christians, just as Bishop Gasi encouraged us to.” The anniversary, held at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Yambio, brought together faithful from across the diocese. The event was presided over by the diocesan bishop, His lordship Eduardo Hiiboro Kusala who offered special blessings in remembrance of Bishop Gasi’s life, legacy, and service to the Church. Bishop Joseph Gasi Abangite, who served as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio for several decades, is remembered as a pillar of faith and unity during some of South Sudan’s most turbulent years. His pastoral care, commitment to peace, and dedication to the spiritual growth of his flock continue to inspire generations. The sacrament of confirmation, which strengthens the baptized in their faith through the gifts of the Holy Spirit, was administered to over 300 candidates a symbolic gesture reflecting the ongoing spiritual growth within the diocese.
