The Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio (CDTY) has officially announced that the Ezo Vicariate will animate the 12th Anniversary Feast of Titarani Bishop Joseph Gasi Abangite, scheduled for 2026. The announcement was made during the celebration of the late bishop’s 11th anniversary and 95th birthday at St. Mary Mother of God Parish on Saturday.

This annual diocesan feast honors the memory, teachings, and enduring legacy of Bishop Gasi, a revered spiritual leader whose decades-long ministry shaped the moral and pastoral life of the Diocese and the wider Church in South Sudan.

The declaration was part of a series of episcopal decrees and diocesan mandates issued by Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala during the solemn celebration attended by clergy, religious, and thousands of lay faithful.

“The next Diocesan Feast of Titarani Bishop Joseph Gasi Abangite shall be animated by the Ezo Vicariate,” Bishop Hiiboro proclaimed, charging the vicariate with the responsibility of organizing and spiritually guiding next year’s commemorations.

The term “animation” refers to the planning, liturgical leadership, and coordination of cultural and spiritual activities during the feast, including Masses, prayers, traditional songs, testimonies, and community outreach events.

Titarani Bishop Joseph Gasi Abangite, fondly remembered as the “People’s Shepherd,” was one of the most influential Catholic leaders in South Sudan. His commitment to peace, justice, and pastoral care has made him a model of holiness in the diocese.

This year’s anniversary featured the unveiling of the Diocese’s official portrait of Bishop Gasi, which will now serve as the recognized image of his memory across all diocesan publications and institutions. Bishop Hiiboro also encouraged parishes and communities to freely use Bishop Gasi’s name, image, and quotes in local initiatives and spiritual projects.
