Preparations are underway for the upcoming Catholic School Day, celebrated annually on October 10th across all Catholic schools under the Diocese of Tombura-Yambio. A successful and well-attended meeting of principals and headmasters from the diocese’s Catholic schools was held on Wednesday, setting the foundation for a meaningful and unified celebration this year.

The meeting, chaired by Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala aimed to coordinate activities and unify vision, focused on strengthening the core values of Catholic education and ensuring that both staff and students understand and embrace the identity of Catholic schooling.
The meeting emphasized on Honesty and Truthfulness in Education as principals and headmasters were urged to encourage teachers to foster a culture of honesty and truthfulness among students. It also stressed that these virtues are essential for nurturing future generations of responsible and ethical citizens who can lead society with integrity.

It further calls for strengthening Catholic Identity in Schools, a renewed focus be placed on instilling the Catholic identity in students. To this end, all Catholic schools are encouraged to hold weekly Masses, reinforcing the spiritual foundation of education and nurturing students in faith and discipline.
Cultural pride and respect for diversity, was also discussed during the meeting, emphasizing the importance of valuing and preserving one’s own culture. Teachers were called upon to help students appreciate their cultural heritage while maintaining respectful boundaries and avoiding overemphasis on external appearances such as skin color or other superficial differences.
The Catholic School Day is distinct from Comboni Day. While Comboni Day celebrates the legacy of St. Daniel Comboni, Catholic School Day honors the broader mission and contribution of all Catholic schools within the diocese.

Teachers, parents, and guardians are warmly invited to participate in the Catholic School Day celebrations on October 10th.
