Kingdom Launches First Cultural Festival in Western Equatoria State

The kingdom of Western Equatoria State (WES) has launched its inaugural cultural festival aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and unity among communities.

The two-day event, themed “Celebrating Our Unity through Cultural Diversity,” kicked off on October 10, 2025, at Yambio Freedom Square.

The festival brought together various tribes from WES, particularly from Yambio municipality, to showcase their unique cultural talents through traditional dances. The event is a collaboration between the kingdom and Whittaker Peace and Development Initiative.

Cultural Performances, Traditional dances, music, and art exhibitions showcasing the rich cultural heritage of WES communities.

Community Engagement, Discussions and workshops focused on promoting unity, peace, and conflict resolution.

Cultural Exchange, Opportunities for different tribes to share and learn from each other’s customs and traditions.

Prince Tadeo Mario Sasa the Prime Minister of Azande Kingdom said that, this festival is a significant step towards building bridges between communities and celebrating our diversity.

“We believe that by embracing our cultural differences, we can foster a more peaceful and harmonious coexistence.”

Tadeo Mario adds that it’s the first time for kingdom to organize search event since the restoration of the kingdom, citing that we will continue with the activities next year to promote unity through cultural diversity.

“We are very happy to start the event in WES which brought together tribes from all the ten counties to show their cultural, tradition food and others how they do in their culture and this program will run for two days Friday and Saturday where His Majesty will attend the last day celebrations together with government officials.” Said Tadeo.

Mande Daniel the Program Coordinator for Whittaker peace and Development Initiative added that, “We’re thrilled to partner with the kingdom in promoting peace and unity through cultural exchange.
