YAMBIO, WESTERN EQUATORIA STATE — Staff of the Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CODEP) and the Diocesan Curia of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio have officially commenced their Christmas holiday break, concluding a year of dedicated service with an uplifting message of positivity, steadfastness, and renewed commitment ahead of the new year.

The announcement came during an end-of-year gathering that marked the close of diocesan activities for 2025. The event brought together clergy, development staff, administrators, and support personnel under the leadership of Rt. Rev. Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, Bishop and Ordinary of the Diocese, whose leadership guides both pastoral and development work in the region.
Bishop Hiiboro Commends Staff Dedication
Addressing the assembled staff, Bishop Hiiboro expressed profound appreciation for their dedication, sacrifices, and hard work throughout the year. He applauded their collective contributions to the Diocese’s mission — from pastoral outreach and peacebuilding to humanitarian and community development initiatives carried out by CODEP, the social arm of CDTY.

“Your unwavering commitment to the work of the Church and to the people we serve is a testament to our shared mission,” Bishop Hiiboro said. “As you take this Christmas break, remain positive in spirit and steadfast in heart, for your service continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our people.”
CODEP, formally known as the Catholic Organization for Development and Peace, plays a central role in advancing socio-economic development, peace, human dignity, and justice within the Diocese. Projects championed by the organization range from peacebuilding initiatives and conflict-resolution training to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programs, livelihood support, and humanitarian responses across Western Equatoria State.

Chancellor Praises Progress and Teamwork
Joining the Bishop in celebrating the year’s achievements, Rev. Fr. Dominic Sasa, Diocesan Chancellor, echoed sentiments of gratitude and encouragement. He highlighted the visible improvements and enhanced performance across CODEP departments and Curia offices, commending staff for embracing teamwork, responsibility, and innovation in their work.
Fr. Sasa encouraged staff to use the Christmas holiday as a time for spiritual renewal, rest and strengthening family bonds — reminding them of the importance of balance between service and personal well-being.

“As you enjoy this festive season, I urge you to recharge, reflect and return with renewed energy and focus,” said Fr. Sasa. “Our work ahead is important, and the challenges of the coming year will require a united and motivated team.”
Positive Outlook for the New Year
In closing remarks, both the Bishop and the Chancellor encouraged staff to look forward to the opportunities and responsibilities awaiting them in the new year. They emphasized the vital role that CODEP and Curia employees play in advancing the Diocese’s mission — particularly in uplifting vulnerable communities, supporting peace and reconciliation, and promoting social justice and human development.

The gathering concluded with messages of goodwill as staff members were wished a peaceful Christmas celebration and a prosperous New Year, filled with renewed enthusiasm to continue serving the Church and society with compassion, professionalism, and hope.
A Season for Renewal and Service

The end-of-year break arrives at a time of reflection and celebration for the Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, which serves a Catholic population of over one million faithful’s across 22 parishes in South Sudan. As the holiday season unfolds, the bishop’s message invites both Church workers and the wider community to embrace rest, faith-renewal, and readiness to face the coming year with courage and commitment.

The Christmas season — a time marked by joy, giving and reflection on the birth of Christ — thus becomes not only a festive pause but a call to return with deepened purpose and unity in service to the people of God.
