Sudan and South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference Honored with Leadership Appointments at AMECEA Assembly

The Sudan and South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference has been recognized with the appointment of several of its members to key leadership positions within the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) during the Association’s 21st Plenary Assembly, held under the theme “AMECEA’s Synodal Journey with Young People: Building Bridges of Communion, Hope, Justice and Good Governance.”

The appointments represent significant recognition of the Church’s commitment to evangelization, peacebuilding, human dignity, and integral human development throughout the AMECEA region encompassing Catholic dioceses across Eastern Africa.

Regional Leadership Appointments

The Conference congratulated five members appointed to prominent positions:

Most Reverend Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, has been appointed Member of the Council of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), a position he has faithfully carried out for the past eight years, demonstrating sustained commitment to Catholic higher education in the region.

Most Reverend Stephen Nyodho Ador, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Malakal, has been appointed Member of the Executive Board of AMECEA, positioning him to influence the Association’s strategic direction and policy decisions.

Most Reverend Alex Lodiong Sakor Eyobo, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Yei, has been appointed Member of the Board of Trustees of AMECEA, entrusting him with fiduciary responsibility for the Association’s resources and institutional governance.

Most Reverend Trile Tombe, Bishop of Elobeid in Sudan, has been appointed Member of the Commission for Blessed Bakanja Seminary of AMECEA, overseeing formation of priests and religious across the region.

Reverend Father Peter Moudie of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio has been appointed Coordinator for the Department of Promotion of Integral Human Development of AMECEA, positioning him to lead the Association’s development and human welfare initiatives.

Significance of Recognition

The Conference described the appointments as great honor and recognition of the gifts and commitment of the Church in Sudan and South Sudan to the Association’s mission throughout the region.

The Sudan and South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference congratulated the appointees on their well-deserved positions and assured them of prayers as they undertake these important responsibilities. The Conference prayed that the Holy Spirit grant them wisdom, strength, and abundant grace in their service to the Church and God’s people.
