The Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CODEP), under the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, on July Tuesday 22nd 2025 distributed emergency food assistance to 110 internally displaced households sheltering in Saura Boma of Yambio County.

The distribution targeted families who fled the recent conflict in Riranga Payam in April. The relief effort specifically focused on the most vulnerable groups among the internally displaced persons (IDPs), including women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

The food assistance package included essential items such as maize flour, beans, sugar, cooking oil, salt, and laundry soap aimed at easing the dire humanitarian situation faced by the displaced families.

CODEP has been at the forefront of humanitarian efforts in the region since the onset of conflict in South Sudan, particularly in Yambio, Ezo, and Tombura. The organization continues to provide critical support to communities affected by violence and displacement.

Speaking during the distribution, Gibson Kamilo CODEP’s humanitarian manager emphasized the organization’s commitment to upholding human dignity and serving those in need through practical and compassionate support.

Local authorities and community members expressed gratitude for the intervention, noting that the assistance comes at a crucial time as many families continue to struggle with displacement and loss of livelihoods.

CODEP’s ongoing efforts highlight the vital role of faith-based organizations in delivering humanitarian aid and fostering resilience in conflict-affected regions.
