In a vibrant display of unity, devotion, and educational spirit, Catholic schools from across the Diocese of Tambura-Yambio gathered at St. Mary Catholic Parish to celebrate the annual feast of St. Daniel Comboni.
This year’s commemoration, held under the theme “Enkindle in them the Fire of Truth and Honesty,” brought together students, teachers, clergy, and community members in a shared celebration of faith and legacy.

Presiding over the Holy Mass, His Lordship Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala delivered a stirring homily, reminding the congregation that honoring St. Daniel Comboni is not merely a ritual, but a celebration of life’s deeper values.
“When we celebrate Comboni, we celebrate the value of our lives,” he said, urging learners to embrace education as the key to success. He emphasized that comfort and achievement come through sacrifice, time, and determination.
Bishop Hiiboro also highlighted the enduring legacy of St. Daniel Comboni, who dedicated his life to evangelization and education across Africa, especially among marginalized communities.
“This gathering is more than a celebration,” he noted. “It is a platform to instill values of faith, excellence, and community service in our learners.”
The Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, H.E Justin Joseph, commended the Catholic Church for its commitment to education and the legacy of Comboni. He proposed the establishment of teachers’ fund to support educators, calling on all parents to contribute and help motivate teachers.
“Parents must love education,” he urged. “Let us continue encouraging our children to go to school.”
Mr. Lino Nugo, head of the Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio Education Secretariat, expressed heartfelt appreciation to teachers and parents for their dedication. “Thank you for sending your children to school and cooperating with us to prepare them for this great day,” he said.
The celebration featured songs, dances, and dramatic performances by students, showcasing their talents and devotion.
