The spirit of unity, culture, and education came alive as the Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio launched the St. Daniel Comboni Celebration with a vibrant inter-school competition at St. Mary Primary School.

The event, organized under the banner of CDTY Got Talent, marked the first time all Catholic schools in the region gathered to showcase their creativity and commitment to peace through traditional dance, poetry, and cultural expression.
The celebration drew a diverse crowd—church leaders, seminarians, Sisters, parents, and local authorities—who joined hands with students and teachers from ten Catholic institutions.

The schools that participated include; Abangite Nursery School, St. Augustine Nursery School, St. Gabriel Primary School, St. Jude Primary School, St. Joseph Primary School, St. Augustine Primary School, St. Bakitha Primary School, Bishop Abangite Science and Technology School and St. Joseph Minor Seminary.
Though some schools were unable to attend due to insecurity, the event radiated hope and solidarity.
Pascal Mabu, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the significance of beginning the annual St. Daniel Comboni feast with a competition.
“This program was started to bring our schools together in celebration. Despite challenges, ten schools made it, and we are grateful to the bishop for supporting this initiative,” Mabu said.

“This competition is for peace, unity, and togetherness. It’s about showcasing poems and dances that speak to health, education, and culture.”
His Lordship Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio, praised the organizers and participants for their dedication:
“All schools are winners today. Each one present has earned 100%. I encourage you to give your best in traditional dances and poems. We will continue to support all schools under the Diocese.”

He also called on parents to prioritize education: “Send your children to school. Education is the key to a better future. Through these competitions, we are not just celebrating St. Daniel Comboni—we are investing in the future of our communities.”
He added, “St. Daniel Comboni believed in the power of education to transform lives. Today, we honor his legacy not just with words, but with action. These competitions are more than performances, they are testimonies of resilience, creativity, and faith.”

He encouraged schools to continue nurturing talent and values: “Let this be the beginning of a tradition. Let our schools become fountains of peace and knowledge. I see future leaders in these children, and we must guide them with love and wisdom.”
