JUBA — This morning, a delegation from Catholic Diocese of Tombura‑Yambio, led by Reverend Fr. Mbikoyo Charles, met with Séamus Patrick Horgan, the Apostolic Nunciature to South Sudan, in Juba to brief him on the dire humanitarian situation facing internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Bazia Payam, Wau County.

During the meeting, the delegation presented detailed reports on the growing crisis in Bazia, where thousands of displaced families—mainly women, children and elderly—are reportedly living without adequate shelter, food, clean water, or access to health services. The group emphasized that the arrival of tens of thousands of IDPs has overwhelmed local capacity, and that the limited assistance provided so far remains insufficient.

The appeal to Archbishop Horgan underscores the urgent need for mobilization of resources and coordinated humanitarian aid. Church leaders are calling on both national and international partners, and the wider Catholic community, to respond swiftly — particularly with emergency food, non-food items (NFIs), temporary shelter, and clean water and sanitation support.

According to the Diocese, this humanitarian plea is meant to draw attention to Bazia’s deteriorating conditions and to solicit broader solidarity and intervention on behalf of the displaced.
