Tombura-Yambio, South Sudan — In a heartwarming event marking the beginning of the Christmas season, His Lordship Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, spent a joyful evening with children from the local community, sharing laughter, stories, and spiritual guidance.

With a warm and fatherly presence, Bishop Hiiboro Kussala reminded the children that the Christmas season is a time to prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ — the Child who comes to bring love, peace, and unity to the world. He encouraged them to prepare their hearts, welcome Jesus, and live in ways that reflect His goodness.

“Anyone who truly befriends Jesus will speak kindly, treat others with respect, and reject words and actions that spread hatred,” the Bishop told the assembled children. He urged them to carry the message of Christ into their homes and communities, proclaiming the arrival of the Child who would grow up to save humanity and bring life to all.

In his address, Bishop Hiiboro Kussala drew on simple and relatable examples to communicate his hopes for the children’s futures. He expressed his belief that they could grow up to be doctors, pilots, leaders, and builders contributing to the development of Western Equatoria.

“Though Jesus was born a small child,” the Bishop said, “He changed the world through love. You too can be ambassadors of peace and hope in your families and communities.”

Bishop Hiiboro Kussala also shared a message of intergenerational responsibility, reminding the children that one day they will care for the older generation and play vital roles in building a peaceful and prosperous society.

He concluded the event with a prayer, asking that coming generations continue to live in harmony, free from suffering, and rooted in the peace that begins in the hearts of children today.

The event brought smiles, inspiration, and a renewed spirit of Christmas joy to the young participants, reinforcing the importance of faith, kindness, and community as the season unfolds.
