Tombura-Yambio, South Sudan — Twenty couples from parishes across the Central Deanery of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio (CDTY) met on Friday for a special gathering focused on strengthening marriages and fostering unity within Christian families.

The meeting was convened at the request of Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, who initiated the effort in response to concerns from church leaders about rising marital conflict and increasing rates of divorce in the state.
During the session, participants agreed to establish a new diocesan movement for married couples, officially named Family for Christ (FFC). The movement will bring together couples married in the Church and those united through traditional rites, with the goal of creating a strong, supportive community rooted in Christian values.

Organizers said Family for Christ will focus on helping families “lead by example,” nurturing solid marriages capable of positively influencing the wider Christian community. The initiative is also designed to provide couples with a space to reflect on their future together, support one another, and develop practical skills for family life.
The meeting resolved that the official launch of the Family for Christ movement will take place on 27 December 2025, with plans to expand the program to all deaneries of the diocese thereafter. Its mission is to reinforce Catholic families at their foundation and promote lasting marital bonds for generations to come.

The Family for Christ movement is expected to become a key pillar in the diocese’s pastoral efforts to support couples and safeguard the institution of marriage, strengthening both individual families and the broader church community.
