The Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY) joyfully celebrated the 25th anniversary of priesthood of Rev. Ezikiel Sungerukuari, the parish priest of Corpus Christi Catholic Parish in Gangura Payam.

Rev. Sungerukuari, affectionately known as “Rev. Sunge” by local parishioners, was ordained in the year 2000 by Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako in Khartoum, Sudan. Since his ordination, he has served in various parishes across the CDTY, as well as in Khartoum, before returning to his home diocese.
The Silver Jubilee celebration was marked by a solemn thanksgiving Mass, presided over by Rev. Thomas Bagbiowia, the Vicar General of the Diocese. In his homily, Rev. Bagbiowia emphasized that the priesthood is not merely a career but a divine calling.

“Priesthood is a vocational call. God chooses His anointed ones among men to lead the Christian ministry,” Rev. Bagbiowia said, addressing the large congregation. He called on the faithful to support their priests and reminded them of the priestly role in guiding souls to eternal life.

Rev. Bagbiowia extended heartfelt congratulations to Rev. Sungerukuari, acknowledging his dedication, service, and unwavering commitment to the Church and its mission over the past 25 years.
The anniversary celebration drew a large gathering, including fellow priests, representatives of organized forces in Gangura Payam, and hundreds of Catholic faithful’s who came to honor the milestone.
Speaking at the event, Rev. Sungerukuari expressed deep gratitude to God, the Diocese, and the community for their support throughout his journey in priesthood. “I thank God for His grace and the strength He has given me to serve His people. I also thank all who have walked this journey with me,” he said.
The celebration concluded with traditional songs, dances, and a communal meal shared by all attendees—a reflection of the unity and joy that marked the special occasion.
