Over 120 Farmers in Yambio, Ezo, and Maridi to Benefit from SCIAF-Supported Agro-Ecological Training

Through the funding from the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF) in partnership with Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CODEP), the social wing of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio is set to train over 120 farmers across Yambio, Ezo, and Maridi counties on Agro-ecological to boost food production, improve livestock management, and strengthen household resilience.

During the training that kicked off on Wednesday 20th August 2025 is targeting also the areas of Yangiri Payam, Nzara, Ringasi, and Mambe with 30 farmers in each area enrolled in the program.

Addressing the trainees the project manager Gibson Kamilio emphasized, “We want to increase the capacity of farmers by training them and establishing a demonstration institute for rural agricultural development in Western Equatoria.”

He added that the project will directly impact 120 farmers and indirectly benefit over 720 household members, with a strong focus on women and persons with disabilities and that it will increase the knowledge, practical skills, and finances for farming as a business.

For his part, Fr. Wenengbi Moses, acting Parish Priest of Regina Mundi, praised CODEP’s consistent efforts of uplifting communities.

“As Church leaders, we will continue to pray for peace in our country so that more opportunities will come to our communities who have gone through crises, especially the IDPs across South Sudan.”

Ezo County RRC Coordinator Mr. Siani Martin expressed gratitude for CODEP’s hospitality and commitment;

“We really need this program. Ezo has produced more agricultural products this year, and this training will help our farmers do better after acquiring the knowledge.”

However, Martin one of the famers highlighted the ongoing challenges facing farmers like insecurity that is limiting farmers to access to markets.”

Hon. Col. Abel Sudan County Commissioner affirmed that local, state, and national governments will continue to create a conducive environment for CODEP’s activities, “This is not the first time CODEP has carried out such projects. They’ve been active across all ten counties. We will stand with them until our people benefit fully.”
