Akorogbodi witnessed a moment of grace, joy, and historical significance today as Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio, laid the foundation stone for the new Resident House of the Missionary Servants of the Needy (MSN), a congregation originally from Nigeria but now fully serving and rooted within our diocese.

The colourful and prayerful ceremony drew together a rich tapestry of the diocesan family and the wider community. Present were priests, deacons, seminarians, the area chief, community elders, and many local leaders, all united in thanksgiving as the Church extended its mission of service, evangelization, and compassion.
Speaking at the event, Bishop Hiiboro described the moment as “a sign of God’s continuous love for His people, and a reminder that the Church grows where there is sacrifice, prayer, and a heart for the poor.” He commended the Missionary Servants of the Needy for their dedication to serving the most vulnerable and for enriching the pastoral life of the diocese.
Missionary Servants of the Needy: A Growing Presence in the Diocese
The congregation has become a vital missionary force in the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio, now serving in four key institutions:
– St. John Paul II Institute of Philosophy
– Catholic University of South Sudan – St. John’s Yambio Campus
– Bishop Abangite College of Science and Technology
– St. Paul Catholic Parish Gitikiri
– Diocesan St. Jude Spiritual Center, Gangara Emilia
Their ministry covers education, pastoral care, spiritual direction, human formation, and direct service to the needy, living fully their charism and inspiring many with their simplicity, humility, and missionary zeal.

A Home that Strengthens Mission. The new Resident House in Akorogbodi will serve as a stable home for the priests, enabling them to deepen their presence among the people, support diocesan programs, and expand their missionary outreach. It is expected to become a center of prayer, formation, and community-building.
The Diocese expresses deep gratitude to the local community of Akorogbodi, whose generosity and unity have made the beginning of this project possible.
As the foundation stone was blessed and placed, the community sang with joy, hopeful that this house will become a beacon of faith, hope, and service to God’s people for generations to come.
May God, who begins every good work, bring it to completion.
