WAU / YAMBIO — The humanitarian arm of the Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CODEP) has dispatched its Humanitarian Emergency Coordinator, Gibson Kamilio, on a fact-finding mission to communities hosting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Wau, Nagero, Tambura and neighboring Bazia — an effort aimed at assessing needs and delivering essential relief items.

Speaking ahead of his departure, Kamilio expressed his gratitude to God and to the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio (CDTY) for enabling the visit. “I am very thankful to God for giving me this opportunity — especially our Lord Bishop of Tombura-Yambio — to go and visit the displaced communities,” he said.

The mission focuses on people displaced by escalating tensions and violence in Western Equatoria State. Many fled their homes in Nagero and Tambura Counties and are now sheltering in neighboring areas such as Bazia and Wau.

Beyond relief deliveries, CODEP intends this journey as a sign of solidarity and compassion. “We are going to see them physically, identify their needs, and determine where we can intervene to support them,” Kamilio explained.

According to CODEP’s plan, limited relief resources will be distributed to displaced families. These relief packages will include basic food and non-food items such as beans, maize flour, cooking oil, and salt — essential supplies aimed at helping families sustain themselves in difficult times.

“We want them to have enough food for today and hope for tomorrow,” Kamilio added.

Recognizing that current resources may not meet all the needs, CODEP has pledged to reach out to donors for additional support, hoping that through collective efforts, displaced families will get the assistance they need to rebuild their lives.
