The Catholic Organization for Development and Peace has arrived in Tambura County to support the most vulnerable households affected by ongoing conflict, under its Emergency Food Assistance Program funded by the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund.

CODEP, a national faith-based humanitarian and development organization with a strong presence in Western Equatoria State, is working closely with diocesan structures, community leaders, and local authorities to deliver life-saving assistance to displaced and crisis-affected populations.

Before the distribution began, CODEP briefed county authorities about its mission, which included the delivery of essential food items and supplies. The organization brought 39 bags of beans, 36 bags of rice, 36 bags of sugar, nine jerycans of cooking oil, eight packages of salt, six mattresses, six cartons of medicine, two boxes of soap, two sacks of posho weighing 50 kilograms each, two beds, and buckets. The target beneficiaries are 100 households in Tambura County.

Mr. Gibson Kamilio Bakuyo, CODEP’s Humanitarian Coordinator, expressed gratitude to the county authorities for their cooperation. He announced that during the month of February, CODEP will visit Tambura County twice with support, and the organization is still appealing to donors for more assistance to reach the affected populations.

Kamilio added that CODEP will also extend support to internally displaced persons in Source-Yubu and other parts of Western Equatoria State later this year. He appealed to the county and state government to work hard for their people so that more opportunities can come to the displaced populations in Western Equatoria, not only from CODEP.

Lucy Edward, the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Coordinator for Tambura County, praised CODEP’s efforts, saying the organization’s support brings hope to families who have been struggling due to the conflict. She expressed appreciation for CODEP standing with the people in their moment of need.

Moses Massi Seree, Acting Executive Director of Tambura County, also expressed gratitude on behalf of the county leadership, thanking CODEP for the timely assistance. He acknowledged that life is not easy for the people, but this support shows solidarity and care when it is needed most.

CODEP’s intervention highlights the critical role of faith-based organizations in responding to humanitarian crises, ensuring that vulnerable communities receive relief and dignity amid ongoing challenges.
