Bishop Barani Edward Hiboro Kussala of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio has departed for Abidjan, Ivory Coast, to attend a major continental church gathering, following a brief stop in Juba where he joined fellow bishops for the groundbreaking ceremony of South Sudan’s National Pastoral Center.

Before departing the country, Bishop Hiboro joined Cardinal Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla and four other bishops on Thursday morning for the groundbreaking of the National Pastoral Center in Juba. The landmark project is designed to strengthen pastoral leadership and priestly formation within the Catholic Church in South Sudan.

From Juba, the bishop travelled to Abidjan via Addis Ababa, where he will take part in a five-day meeting between Caritas Africa and Caritas Internationalis. On the sidelines of the gathering, Bishop Hiboro is also scheduled to hold meetings aimed at strengthening partnerships and development support for the Diocese of Tombura-Yambio.

In a statement signed by the Bishop’s Administrative Assistant, Emmanuel Bia Bafo, the diocese confirmed that all administrative and pastoral activities will continue as normal during Bishop Hiboro’s absence.

The faithful of the diocese have been encouraged to keep Bishop Hiboro in their prayers for a safe journey and a fruitful mission, both for the good of the diocese and the broader Catholic Church in Africa.
