The former National Transitional Legislative Assembly Speaker, Mama Jama Nunu Kumba, has registered as a member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Tambura County, Western Equatoria State. She completed her registration on Thursday at the SPLM Secretariat in the state capital, Yambio, in a ceremony attended by SPLM members and supporters.
Speaking after her registration, Nunu Kumba expressed appreciation to party members for turning up in large numbers to witness her registration.
She said, “I’m very happy to be home and to register as a member of the SPLM Party. I am committed to embracing the new challenge of 35 percent. I am also here to encourage other members to register for the party.’
She continued to say that her visit also aimed at encouraging women, youth and local leaders from Tambura County to register under their respective constituencies ahead of the country’s planned general elections.
“I’m here to encourage my people from Tambura constituency. I know most of them have registered, but I am here to give them more encouragement as we prepare for the general election,” she said.
Nunu Kumba thanked SPLM members for organizing the event and welcoming her to register in her home state.
She also expressed appreciation to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for what she described as his leadership and support for women’s participation in the country’s political affairs.
The former legislator further called on the people of Western Equatoria State to reject misinformation and avoid messages that could create fear among communities.
She emphasized the importance of peace as South Sudan prepares for the general elections, saying the people of Western Equatoria need peace and stability.
“Let us avoid misinformation about war. This country will not go for war anymore. The people of Western Equatoria need peace because we are peaceful, and South Sudan at large needs peace,” she said.
Her registration comes as political parties and citizens prepare for South Sudan’s scheduled general elections on 22 December 2026, the first national elections since the country gained independence in 2011.
