On 27th April 2025, the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY) marked a joyful milestone on Sunday as Bishop Edward Hiiboro Kussala made his first pastoral visit to St. Joseph Quisi Parish, located in Ikpiro, Yambio Municipality. The event drew hundreds of faithful from the community who gathered to welcome the bishop with music, dance, and traditional greetings.

The visit was especially significant for the parish, which has been growing in faith and numbers since its establishment. It was the first time Bishop Hiiboro set foot in the parish.
During the Mass, Bishop Hiiboro administered the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and First Holy Communion to dozens of children and young people. The ceremony was filled with emotion as proud parents and catechists looked on, celebrating the fruits of months of spiritual preparation and catechesis.

In his homily, Bishop Hiiboro emphasized the importance of nurturing faith within the family and the community, reminding parishioners that the sacraments are not just ceremonies but a commitment to a lifelong journey with Christ. “Today, these children begin a sacred walk with God”, he said, and continued “It is now up to all of us, the Church, parents, and the wider community to guide them in love and truth”.
Bishop Hiiboro’s visit comes at a time when the Diocese is focusing on outreach to rural and developing parishes, reinforcing the message that no community is too remote to be seen and supported by the wider Church.
A particularly touching moment during the visit was when the community dressed Bishop Hiiboro in a traditionally crafted garment, hand-made by local artisans. The colorful attire symbolized not only the bishop’s welcome into the community but also the integration of faith and culture in South Sudanese Catholic life. Bishop Hiiboro smiled warmly as he received the gift and expressed his deep gratitude, calling it “a sign of love, unity, and the beauty of our tradition in Christ.”
