A team of heart specialists from Greece has arrived at the Curia under the CDTY-COPED initiative to provide both general and specialized healthcare services within the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio.

According to diocesan officials, the medical team began its mission on Tuesday morning by conducting health assessments and consultations for religious leaders based at the Curia. Later in the afternoon, the team proceeded to Yambio State Hospital to attend to patients from the wider community.
The medical outreach is expected to extend services across several counties within the diocese, including Yambio, Nzara, Ezo, Source Yubu, and Tombura. The initiative aims to improve access to general and specialized medical care, with a particular focus on heart-related illnesses and other chronic conditions that are difficult to manage due to limited local resources.

The mission is headed by Mr. Andrew Dungeneyo, who said the team is committed to strengthening local health services and supporting communities in need.
Western Equatoria State Minister of Health, Hon. James Abdalla Marona, welcomed the arrival of the Greek doctors, describing the mission as timely and vital, especially for communities with limited access to specialized healthcare.

Meanwhile, Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio emphasized the importance of international cooperation, noting that the initiative reflects strong solidarity between the people of Greece and South Sudan.

“This collaboration shows our shared concern for human wellbeing and the value of working together to save lives,” the Bishop said.

The medical team is expected to remain in the diocese throughout the outreach period, providing consultations, screenings, and treatment to hundreds of patients across the five counties, bringing much-needed relief to vulnerable communities.
