By Sr. Laurencila, FSSA

The Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio has held a thanksgiving following the successful and historic ordination of four new priests and six deacons, marking a significant milestone in the life of the local Church.

In a message of gratitude issued after the ordination ceremony, Bishop Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala expressed deep thanksgiving to Almighty God for what he described as a grace-filled celebration of faith, unity, and hope. Citing Psalm 118:23, the Bishop noted that the ordination was a moment of divine blessing for the Diocese and the people it serves.

The Bishop extended special appreciation to St. Augustine Parish, which hosted the ordination ceremony, commending the parish community for its generosity and commitment in making the historic event dignified and successful.

He also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the Diocesan Curia and Administration, choirs, apostolic groups, religious men and women, priests, catechists, liturgical ministers, security personnel, service teams, and all pastoral and support staff whose dedication and discipline contributed to the smooth organization of the celebration.

Recognizing the importance of collaboration, Bishop Kussala expressed gratitude to diocesan partners and stakeholders whose contributions, though often unseen, played a vital role in the success of the ordination. He emphasized that such collective support strengthens the mission of the Church.

Strong Government and Traditional Leadership Support

The thanksgiving message also highlighted the strong presence and solidarity of leadership from Western Equatoria State, including H.E. the Governor and Deputy Governor, as well as His Majesty King Atoroba Rikito Gbudue, the Azande King. The Bishop further acknowledged the participation of His Grace Archbishop Samuel Peni Enossa, Archbishop of Yambio and Metropolitan of the Western Equatoria Ecclesiastical Province.

Additional appreciation was extended to leaders from government institutions, civil authorities, non-governmental organizations, educators, intellectuals, security personnel, drivers, and development partners who attended the ceremony.

The Bishop gave special recognition to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure for road paving and logistical support, noting that improved accessibility enabled the faithful to attend the celebration with ease. He described the cooperation between Church and State as a positive example of partnership for the common good.

Call for Continued Support and Prayers

In his message, Bishop Kussala called on the faithful and partners to continue supporting the Diocese, particularly the newly ordained priests and deacons, through prayers, goodwill, and collaboration. He encouraged the new clergy to serve faithfully after the heart of Christ and to become builders of peace in the country.

The Bishop assured all supporters of the Diocese’s continued prayers, stating that they would be remembered at every altar and throughout pastoral ministry.

Concluding his message with words from the Apostle Paul, the Bishop thanked all partners for their shared commitment to the Gospel and invoked God’s blessing upon them, praying for peace, protection, and grace upon all who contributed to the success of the historic ordination.

The thanksgiving marks a moment of renewal and hope for the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio as it strengthens its pastoral mission through newly ordained ministers dedicated to serving God’s people.
