The Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio has laid the foundation stone for a new primary school in Ngboko Ave Maria, marking a significant step toward expanding access to education in the area.

Speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony, Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala emphasized the Catholic Church’s long-standing commitment to education, describing it as central to its mission.
“Education is the key, and education is the DNA of the Catholic Church,” Bishop Eduardo said. He noted that the Church’s role in education is not to compete with the government but to complement its efforts in providing quality learning opportunities for children.

The Bishop also called on parents and community members in Ngboko to actively support the initiative, stressing that collective responsibility is crucial for the successful construction and long-term sustainability of the school. He encouraged families to take ownership of the project as an investment in the future of their children.

John Zanga, the Catechist Assistant Coordinator for Tombura Deanery, said the decision to construct the new school was driven by growing demand for education in the area. According to Zanga, Ngboko currently has only one government-run primary school, which is no longer sufficient to accommodate the rising number of school-age children.

“The number of children in this area continues to grow every year,” Zanga said. “This situation has prompted the Church to initiate the construction of a new primary school to help reduce congestion and ensure that more children have access to education.”
Once completed, the new Catholic primary school is expected to play a key role in supporting government efforts and meeting the educational needs of the rapidly growing community.
